The easy and pleasant drive around the entire Touring Route is 370 kilometres, which begins just 40 minutes from Christchurch for those travelling north, or from Kaikoura for those travelling south.  Yet at almost every turn, new and interesting vistas unfold – rolling hill country, cloud-piercing mountains, rugged seascapes, sculptured limestone formations, swift-flowing rivers and cool shady forests.
